The Best Spring Walking Trails Near Dunbar for Every Fitness Level

Published: |

Dunbar is a highly sought-after neighbourhood on the West Side, and Dunbar real estate offers arguably the most prestigious homes in western Vancouver. With its close proximity to the University of British Columbia, as well as many opportunities for enjoying the natural and beautiful outdoors, Dunbar is the place to be for the nature lover. When looking for Dunbar real estate, however, it’s important to have some fun and look a little further into the forest. Here are some of the best spring walking trails near Dunbar that are suitable for you, and every member in your family, too.

Try the Forest Discovery Interpretive Trail at Pacific Spirit Park

For a hike that is suitable for the whole family, consider visiting Pacific Spirit Regional Park. Here you will find the Forest Discovery Interpretive Trail, which begins at the park’s centre. This is a 1.5 kilometre long looping trail that is relatively quick, with a completion time of approximately 30 minutes. The terrain is very easy to manoeuvre, and the level trails make this nature walk wheelchair accessible. This educational walk will teach you about the forest that surrounds you, and the park also offers both on and off-leash dog areas so that your furry family member can be included, too.

 Camosun Park: On-Leash Dog Trail

A perfect on-leash dog trail in Dunbar starts at Camosun Park, where you can find the Camosun Trail. Offering different networks and routes, the Camosun Trail is accessible for your whole family, and heads south from the park through the parkland, past the Camosun Bog, and toward King Edward Avenue. The trail runs south adjacent to Imperial Drive, then connects with Top Trail at the south end of Camosun Bog.  A multi-use trail for hikers and cyclists then heads west into Pacific Spirit Regional Park.

Beach Walk for the Experts

For the highly skilled members of the family – who are also of age – the beach walk trail can be the perfect way to challenge yourself on a sunny spring day in Vancouver. Just slightly outside of Dunbar, the beach walk trail begins at Acadia Beach near Spanish Banks, and continues along the shoreline of the most western part of Vancouver. Offering some of the best scenery and ocean and mountain views, the beach walk trail is not for the faint at heart. With a minimum journey of three hours one way to complete the 5 km trail, as well as challenging rocky terrain, the trail passes through the clothing-optional Wreck Beach. If you time your hike just right, you’ll pass the beach during the low tide and you can relax a bit more on the extensive, soft-footed flats. The trail ends near the Botanical Gardens at UBC.

Knowing that you have these fantastic walking trails in your very own neighbourhood certainly makes Dunbar only that much more appealing as your future neighbourhood. Especially since these trails are suitable for every fitness level, from beginners to experts, they offer a perfect opportunity to enjoy a sunny spring day with your family. If you and your family enjoy the outdoor lifestyle, you’ll love living in Dunbar!
